COURSE OPTIONS
NRP 8th Edition utilizes a blended learning approach, which includes online testing with hands-on skills session.
The NRP 8th Edition offers two new levels of learning:
- NRP Essentials, which covers lessons 1-4
- NRP Advanced, which covers lessons 1-11
nrp - eSSENTIALS
lESSIONS 1-4
Essentials is for healthcare providers who will be involved with neonatal care but NOT expected to perform in a full neonatal resuscitation code.
This may include: L&D, well-baby, postpartum or lactation nurses, or midwife assistants.
If you are a midwife and are expected to place an oral airway and give chest compressions until paramedics arrive, you should probably take the Advance course.
If you are unsure which type of NRP you need, check with your healthcare facility or establishment. We are NOT responsible if you choose to take the Essentials and find out you need an Advanced Course. You will have to pay to take the other course.
- Register for the online “NRP Provider Exam” (Essentials)
- The exam must correlate with the skills check you will perform with an instructor in Part 2.
- The cost of the online NRP exam is $45.
- After completing the exam, you have 90 days to complete an instructor-led checkoff class.
The skills session is a case-based simulation/debriefing that focus on critical leadership, communication, and team-work skills.

nrp - aDVANCED
lESSONS 1-11
Advanced is for healthcare providers who will be involved with in a full neonatal resuscitation code and performing advanced neonatal resuscitation skills (ex: compression, placing an airway, placing umbilical or I/O lines, and drawing up and/or giving meds.
This may include: midwives, neonatal nurses, advanced practice nurses, respiratory therapist, physicians, physicians assistants, paramedics.
If you are unsure which type of NRP you need, check with your healthcare facility or establishment.
- Register for the online “NRP Provider Exam” (Advanced)
