Course/Training Options

American Heart Association offers 4 Heartsaver Courses:

  1. First Aid
  2. CPR/AED
  3. First Aid/CPR/AED
  4. Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED

If you are taking a course because it is required by employer, adoption agency, etc. then it is important to know which certification you are required to have.

If you taking this because you wish to be certified then pick the course that will meet your goals.

American Heart Association (AHA) offers training in 2 formats. Each format include the same learning objectives for the same (identical) certification card:

 

Instructor Led Courses – Full course is done in person. Instructors deliver both the cognitive and psychomotor components in a classroom setting.

 

Blended Learning Courses – offers the flexibility of self-paced on-line learning with in-person hands-on skills practice & testing. This course is in 2 parts:

  • Part I (Online Learning) – The eLearning (online) portion is a self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program.
  • Part II (Skills Practice & Testing) – The skills session is designed to allow students time to practice before testing on skills required to receive their certification card.

    • Average length of time is 4-4.5 hours depending on number of students

Blended Learning Courses

  1. CPR AED
    • Average length of time is 1-2 hours depending on number and experience level of students.
  2. First Aid CPR AED 
    • Average length of time is 1.5-2.5 hours depending on number and experience level of students.
  3. First Aid
    • Average length of time is 1 hour depending on number and experience level of students.
  4. Pediatric First Aid CPR AED
    • Average length of time is 1 hour depending on number and experience level of students.

First Aid

This course covers Basic First Aid only.

  • List the priorities, roles, and responsibilities of the first aid rescuer
  • How to identify common injuries and illnesses
  • How to implement first aid for: heart attack, difficulty breathing, choking, severe bleeding, shock, allergic reactions, and stroke
  • Describe how to find information on preventing illness and injury

Heartsaver CPR/AED

This course covers CPR and use of an AED (automated external defibrillator)

  • How to perform CPR on Adults, Children, and Infant
  • How to perform mouth to mouth breaths
  • How to perform breaths and use a pocket mask
  • How to help someone when they are choking
  • How to use and automated external defibrillator device

Cost and time commitment

Blended Learning Courses

  • Average length of time: Online portion: 3.5-4 hours  and  Skills session: 1–1.25 hours
  • Cost: $50.00 per person + cost on online course (approx. $20.00)
  • We offer skills check offs 2-3 day/week at various times.

Instructor Led Courses

  • We offer this 1-2 times/month.

 

First Aid/CPR/AED

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid, CPR, AED

This course covers Pediatric specific First aid, CPR, and use of an AED (automated external defibrillator)

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED Online is intended for those involved in childcare who have a duty to respond to illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. This audience includes child care workers, teachers, foster care workers, camp counselors, youth organizations, and coaches for children’s sports organizations. This course is also ideal for parents, grandparents, babysitters, and guardians. This course is also appropriate for educators, teachers and the general public.
